Jaagsiekte

IMG 0073

This case of Jaagsiekte, or sheep pulmonary adenomatosis (SPA) was diagnosed on a local farm. The ewe had already passed away on arrival, but the carcass was still fresh. The lungs had a characteristic mottled appearance and were firm and 'gritty' to the touch. The farmer decribed pre-mortem clinical signs of laboured breathing and clear fluid dribbling from the nose when the head was lowered.

SPA is a contagious lung tumour associated by a slow viral infection.
