Travelling abroad?

It is now easier than ever to take your pet on holiday with you when you are travelling abroad. There are however some hoops that you must jump through before you can pack them into the car and zoom off into the sun…

If you are travelling to another EU country, the minimum that your pet is likely to need is:

a microchip

a vaccination against rabies

a Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) passport

For the most comprehensive information on the requirements for pet travel, please visit the PETS scheme page of the GOV.UK website at: or have a look at this leaflet provided by MSD on Taking your pet abroad. Alternatively, please visit this page provided by Heathrow Airport that gives a very comprehensive guide to travelling with your pet:

You may also consider reducing the chances of your dog catching Leishmaniasis, a very nasty parasite endemic to mainland Europe that is spread by Sandflies. Talk to us about spot-on type treatments that you can put on your dog to reduce the chance of insect bites, and also about vaccination against the disease. Please read this information leaflet provided by Virbac for more information.
