Biting insects

As we move into the Spring and Summer, we can expect to see increasing numbers of biting insects and arachnids like fleas and ticks. A recent article in The Times (click here to see a copy) has highlighted the danger of diseases carried by ticks: you can get further information on this and many other topics at MyPetonline - an online community for pets, pet owners and vets - join in, we have!

Alternatively, as ever, give us a call or drop into the practice for some advice on the excellent products that we have to repel and kill these pests. We only stock products that are approved by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), which means that they are all fully tested for safety and efficacy.

For cover on a month-by-month basis, we like the Advantix and Advocate cutaneous (spot-on) treatments by Bayer or, for longer cover, we like the Seresto flea and tick collar. This collar offers:

  • Up to 8 months of continuous protection for both dogs and cats
  • Innovative collar matrix enables controlled release of consistent dose
  • Kills fleas and repels and kills ticks
  • Reduces risk of transmission of vector-borne diseases
  • Water resistant and odour free

On top of all these advantages, the collar represents a greater than 40% saving on the cost of providing similar cover with a spot-on tick treatment (Advantix) and a greater than 50% saving on the cost of providing similar cover with a spot-on flea treatment (Advocate). Effective, low hassle and low cost. Talk to us for more details or click the banner above to link to Bayer's website dedicated to information on parasites of dogs and cats.

Alternatively you may prefer to try the new Bravecto tablet from MSD that offers:
